At numerous concerts, I was fascinated by the timbre of the viola in klezmer music. This gave me the idea to write a klezmer concerto for viola. It comes closest to the clarinet. The title Magic Carpet comes from the year 1949, when the state of Israel undertook the action of relocating various Jewish communities from abroad to the newly founded state of Israel. Among others, Yemeni Jews came to Israel in large numbers, whose culture is considered to be one of the most original Jewish cultures. Yemeni songs, dances and cuisine have largely shaped Israelite culture ever since. Mario Korunic
